November Calendar

Troop 540,

I just want to post all of the events for the month of November. There are two nights this month, where North Main will be closed for Veteran’s Day (11/11) and for Parent/Teacher Conferences (11/18).

Here are the upcoming events for November as follows:

  • Sunday, November 2nd – “Stuff the Bus” community service at Sacred Heart, from 7:45-9:15 or 9:45-11:15am or 11:45am-1:15pm or 5:45-7:15pm

  • Friday, November 21st – Deadline to let me know if you are going on the indoor rock climbing trip in Albany, NY on Friday, February 20th to the 21st.
  • Friday, November 21st – Sunday, November 23rd – Camping at Bullowa in the Mohawk Site…I will be at this trip for the entire weekend. I will need at least one other leader or adult volunteer
  • Saturday, November 22nd, Wreath Sale at the K of C from 12-5pm
  • Tuesday, November 25th – Green bar meeting from 7-7:30pm and Troop meeting from 7:30-9pm at North Main

We have decided that since the Gettysburg trip is a family trip, we will book hotels and not stay in tents. Mr. Nebrasky is working on locking in a hotel. It just so happens that there is a major soccer tournament on the same weekend as our trip. We will be asking the families to book the hotel that we will be blocking rooms for VERY SOON. Stay tuned for more details.

If I have missed anything, please write back and add details or corrections.

Thanks and have a safe and fun Halloween boys!!!

Sincerely,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540

Reminders

Troop 540,

The VFW needs volunteers to help out at their breakfast being held by the VFW Ladies Aux. 8858. This will be held from 8:30-11:30am at St. Anastasia Church in Harriman, in the Cardinal O’Connor Room on Sunday, November 2nd. If you are able to make this, please email Mrs. Lamarch and let her know. I have copied her to this email to make it easier to reply to her.

The other reminder is for the Carousel cake fundraiser. I have the order sheets from Mrs. Donahue. You can down the forms here and here. The order forms are due by Tuesday, November 11th. Please return them to Mrs. Donahue. Each scout will need to sell at least three cakes or pies. The money raised for this will go to troop related activities. A percentage of this will also go into each scout’s account. This will be applied to the scout camping trips and other related activities that the troop does throughout the year. If the scout doesn’t help to earn the money in the fundraisers, then the families will be charged for the activities that he participates in throughout the scout year.

Lastly, if you brought home a tent from the last camping trip and you haven’t handed it in yet, please do so at the next meeting.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540

Community Service Opportunity

Troop 540,

Mrs. Estrella has asked if any of the scouts could help out and do some community service for Sacred Heart Church.

Here are the details below:

Sacred Heart Church has a “stuff the bus”organizing/segregating canned/packaged food donations from SH parishioners.  Father Tom mentioned that they would like to run this “event” next weekend (November 1st & 2nd).  This past weekend, kids from Sacred Heart School as well as girls scouts from Sacred Heart (including Andre’s sister, Sofia was part of this organization) were helping to organize the donations.

They would need help15 minutes before and aftermass on Satmass at5:30pm and Sundaymasses at 8 am, 10 am, 12 noon and 6 pm.

Please respond back to this email and let me know if anyone could help out with this.  It would be nice to get some scouts involved with this.  Especially since the church lets us keep the troop trailer on their lot.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540
