Troop Meeting Cancelled

Good Morning Troop 540,

I hope you’re all safe, warm and at home today. The meeting for tonight has been cancelled due to the weather. We will have our Scoutmaster conference and Board of Review next Tuesday.

I will also be handing out the neckerchiefs then.

I’d like to get a report from the merit badge counselors as to what the progress has been with your scouts. If you could all email me back and let be know how many scouts have completed their requirements, how many are a partial and how many didn’t even start. Thanks. My goal would be to have the merit badges complete in the next month; if possible.

Here are some upcoming dates for future events:

  • Friday, 2/13/15 – Albany Indoor Rock Climbing: We arrive at 8:00pm on Friday and will leave the facility at 8:00am sharp on Saturday, 2/14/15
  • Friday, 3/13/15, to Sunday, 3/15/15 – Camp Nooteeming: We will be using the rifle range that Saturday morning
  • Friday, 4/17/15 to Sunday, 4/19/15 – Camp Wabanaki: We will be using backpacks and hiking into the camp from a remote location

See you all next Tuesday in North Main. Those that are up for the Scoutmaster conference, please be dressed in your full class “A” uniforms.

Mount Marcy Hike

Troop 540,

We are planning a hike up Mount Marcy in July. This hike is approximately 18 miles long, (9 miles up the mountain and 9 miles down). Two years ago, Mr. Walker and Mr. Shea did the hike with some of the older scouts. Mr. Walker may also go up and watch our gear for us while we trek up the mountain.

If you are interested in going on this trip, you will have to be able to physically hike the 18 miles in one day. We would arrive on Friday, July 10th, at a loft at the base of the mountain, hike all day Saturday and leave to go home on Sunday, July 12th. The cost for the loft, per person is $108. This includes a bed for two nights and breakfast for two days. You would have to pay for the remaining meals. There are 7 spots available for this trip. The first 7 people to hand me a check, made out to Troop 540 for $108, will go on the trip. Here’s the list of people going on the trip:

This Weekend’s Camping Trip

Troop 540,

Just a reminder that we will be camping at Bullowa this weekend in the Winter cabin. Drop off is at 7:00pm on Friday night (note the time change) and pick up will be at 8:00am SHARP on Sunday. I suggest bringing your fishing poles. From what I understand, the lake doesn’t completely freeze over. You may be able to get a couple of casts in on the side of the lake.

Griffin will have things for us to do on Saturday. It should be a fun trip. Plan on bringing your scout books also, so that you can work on some rank requirements.

I’m getting home from work at 5:30pm on Friday and picking up Christian and Alex and then picking up the trailer. I probably won’t get there until about 7:00pm. See you all Friday night.

Albany Indoor Rock Climbing

Troop 540,

I will be collecting the money for the Albany Rock Climbing trip tomorrow night. I will also be collecting and handing out the permission slips. I still need money from the following people:

Not everyone has registered for this year.

If you have not handed in the two forms (links below) and $70.00 you are not fully registered for the year. If you have not registered please fill out the following forms and hand them in on Tuesday.
