Clean Sweep

First I want to thank Mr. Hall for setting up the very successful event tonight with the bee keepers. Very interesting and educational.

The Monroe Clean Sweep in this coming Saturday, starting at 8:00am. The meeting point is the bus stop adjacent to the Bourbon Street Grill in Monroe by the lakes. Anyone who needs community service hours should go to help out.

Thanks.

Community Service

Troop 540,

There are some community service opportunities coming up for those that need the hours.

Here are some events that we should sign up to volunteer for:

April 30 – Clean Sweep – starting at 8am in the commuter parking lot (next to Bourbon Street Grill)

May 21 – The veterans are putting flags on deceased servicemen’s graves at St. Anastasia, starting at 10am

Near future – Repair the picnic table at The Knights of Columbus. We need an adult volunteer to run a power saw to cut the wood to repair the bench on the picnic table.

UPDATE: Mr. Crown, I’m sorry but Mrs. Crown volunteered you for the job!

Let me know if you can make any of these dates.

Thanks.

Announcements

Troop 540,

We need some scouts to volunteer for community service hours by helping the Monroe Woodbury Rotary Club to ring the bells for The Salvation Army on Saturday, December 12th at Stop N Shop.  They need one to two scouts per shift.

Here are the time slots available:

11am-1pm, 1-3pm & 3-5pm.

Please contact Sue Ketterer at: Sue.ketterer@gmail.com if you are interested in helping out.

Does anyone need more wreaths to sell.  We only have about 20 wreaths left.  Let us know if you need any more.

We are still looking for Justin Ramos’s scout book.  It was last seen on one of the tables last week at the meeting.  Please check your books to make sure that you are not in possession of Justin’s by mistake.

We also have a book that was left behind last week that doesn’t have a name on or in it.  Please check to make sure that you have your scout book.

Next Tuesday the troop meeting will be back at North Main.  We will have a Scoutmaster Conference for those scouts that qualify to rank up.

See you all next Tuesday.

Thanks,

Jon

Community Service

Troop 540,

Mr. Pakula is asking for 3 or 4 scouts to help out with removing some shrubs in front of the library (Millpond side) tomorrow afternoon at around 1:00 or 2:00pm.  It will only take about two or three hours to do the job.  You would need to show up with some garbage bags, a shovel and some gloves.

If anyone can make it, please respond back to this email.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540

November Calendar

Troop 540,

I just want to post all of the events for the month of November. There are two nights this month, where North Main will be closed for Veteran’s Day (11/11) and for Parent/Teacher Conferences (11/18).

Here are the upcoming events for November as follows:

  • Saturday, November 1st – “Stuff the Bus” community service at Sacred Heart, from 5:15-6:45pm
  • Sunday, November 2nd – “Stuff the Bus” community service at Sacred Heart, from 7:45-9:15 or 9:45-11:15am or 11:45am-1:15pm or 5:45-7:15pm

  • Tuesday, November 18th – Green bar meeting from 7-7:30pm and Troop meeting from 7:30-9pm, tentative for K of C
  • Friday, November 21st – Deadline to let me know if you are going on the indoor rock climbing trip in Albany, NY on Friday, February 20th to the 21st.
  • Friday, November 21st – Sunday, November 23rd – Camping at Bullowa in the Mohawk Site…I will be at this trip for the entire weekend. I will need at least one other leader or adult volunteer
  • Saturday, November 22nd, Wreath Sale at the K of C from 12-5pm
  • Tuesday, November 25th – Green bar meeting from 7-7:30pm and Troop meeting from 7:30-9pm at North Main

We have decided that since the Gettysburg trip is a family trip, we will book hotels and not stay in tents. Mr. Nebrasky is working on locking in a hotel. It just so happens that there is a major soccer tournament on the same weekend as our trip. We will be asking the families to book the hotel that we will be blocking rooms for VERY SOON. Stay tuned for more details.

If I have missed anything, please write back and add details or corrections.

Thanks and have a safe and fun Halloween boys!!!

Sincerely,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540

Community Service Opportunity

Troop 540,

Mrs. Estrella has asked if any of the scouts could help out and do some community service for Sacred Heart Church.

Here are the details below:

Sacred Heart Church has a “stuff the bus”organizing/segregating canned/packaged food donations from SH parishioners.  Father Tom mentioned that they would like to run this “event” next weekend (November 1st & 2nd).  This past weekend, kids from Sacred Heart School as well as girls scouts from Sacred Heart (including Andre’s sister, Sofia was part of this organization) were helping to organize the donations.

They would need help15 minutes before and aftermass on Satmass at5:30pm and Sundaymasses at 8 am, 10 am, 12 noon and 6 pm.

Please respond back to this email and let me know if anyone could help out with this.  It would be nice to get some scouts involved with this.  Especially since the church lets us keep the troop trailer on their lot.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540
