Summer Camp

Troop 540,

We’re all set for Ranachqua! Here is a link with a checklist for what you should bring to camp: http://www.tenmileriver.org/ra/forms/equipmentlist.pdf

PLEASE DO NOT BRING PHONES to the camp. If there are any issues that may develop during the week, I will be sure to contact the parents.

You should all arrive at camp by 12:00pm tomorrow. One thing that is not on this list is mosquito netting. You should pick that up as they really help cut down on bug bites.

For those scouts that didn’t make it to the pre-camp meeting, please make sure your medical forms (two copies) are filled out COMPLETELY, along with a copy of your parents medical id card, have you merit badge schedules ready to hand in tomorrow.

Here is a link with directions in a PDF file: http://www.tenmileriver.org/ra/forms/parentsletter2013.pdf

Finally, make sure you all bring your class A uniforms. They will be taking pictures of the troop in the middle of the week.

See you all tomorrow at camp.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540

Goose Pond South Hike Details

Scouts and Parents,

We will be hiking a brand new section of the Highlands Trail located in what is currently referred to as Goose Pond South. The 389 acre parcel was slated to be developed with 222 homes. Thankfully it was rescued by the Open Space Institute and will eventually be part of Goose Pond Mountain State Park. The NY/NJ Trail Conference is in the process of re-routing the Highlands Trail through the property and into Goose Pond Mountain State Park. This document which goes into more detail and includes a map.

The hike is open to anyone that would like to join us. Please dress appropriately for a hike through the woods. The hike will be moderate, however there are steep sections and some rough terrain. I also recommend spaying an insecticide with DEET on your legs/socks because the ticks are out. We will meet at the trailhead at 6:00 pm on Tuesday 5/26/15 and return by 7:30pm.

Directions from Monroe Village:

  1. Take Lakes Road towards Greenwood Lake
  2. Turn right on Laroe Road (just past Walton Lake)
  3. Turn Right on Bull Mill Road (just past large curve in road)
  4. Parking area is on the right after you cross the small bridge over Trout Brook

Please e-mail me directly if you have any questions. My cell number is 845-313-7167.

Thanks.

Jim Donovan

Troop 540,

Here are more detailed directions from Mr. Ellis from last year to the Arden parking lot for tomorrow:

The parking lot area on the south side of Arden Valley Road. Arden Valley Road is off Route 17, approximately 2 miles south of the Harriman Train Station. Take Arden Valley Road east for about 1/3 to ½ mile to the parking area on the south side of the road. You will pass a stone park ranger station/home to your south about 200 yds along the road and then just after crossing over Route 87 parking lot is on the south side. From this parking lot we will be departing on an approximately 2.5 mile (one way) backpacking hike (low impact hike) along the Stahahe Brook Trail. PLEASE ARRIVE AT 11:00 AM We will leave for the hike into the camp by 11:15am SHARP (again for parents dropping off and picking up – PICK UP TIME IS 8:00AM SHARP on Sunday)
