Troop 540,

Saturday, May 21st, and Sunday, May 22nd, between 9:30 and 10 am: Brandon Linsalato’s Eagle Project  at the Veterans Memorial, River Road, in Harriman. Bring a shovel and work gloves. Brandon will be refurbishing the Veteran’s Memorial at the Harriman VFW. He also asked if you could help sell cakes for his fund raising. Download the fundraising package for the Carousel Cakes here.

Thanks,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540

Camping Trip

Troop 540,

We’re all set for the camping trip this weekend. I will send the exact location for our campsite tonight. Plan on meeting at 6:00pm on Friday. Please eat dinner beforehand. We will head out at 7:45am SHARP on Sunday Morning. I will be coming into camp a little late, as Alex has a track meet that night. I know Ron Buckley will be coming on the trip. Are there any other adults that could make the trip?

Here are the food assignments for the weekend:

Please bring enough food and drinks for 15 people.

Breakfast Saturday: Tyler

Lunch Saturday: Andre – Cheeseburgers

Dinner Saturday: Aidan Crown

Breakfast Sunday: Alex – Muffins, OJ

I have requested the climbing wall and the BB shooting range. There are no guarantees that we will get either of them but if we do, they charge money per scout for the events. I would send your son to camp with about $15.00 in order to pay for these events; if we get in. They also require that you have your BSA Medical Form 2016 filled out (just for climbing and the shooting; not for the camping trip itself). You should still have your forms from the Camporee or Ranachqua. These forms would still count, if not, you will need these forms for summer camp as well. I have attached the medical form file to this email.

If you weren’t at the meeting tonight and you would like to go on the trip, please let me know ASAP so that we can add you on the roster that I have to hand in on Friday night.

Look for an email from me tonight with the directions and details on where the campsite is.

Thanks,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540

CupCake Fundraiser

Troop 540,

We are holding an optional fundraiser which could be used to offset the cost of summer camp (which has gone up!) or other scouting events.

We can sell Cup Cakes from Carousel Cakes for the Easter holiday. They come in six-packs and the suggested price is $18 per package. The scouts would earn $5.00 for each package they sell.

I will find out the deadline for handing in the order and forward the information to you tomorrow.

Maura and I will handle picking up the orders on Tuesday, March 22 and have them available later that day for distribution.

If you are interested in participating, please print out the these forms:

Thank you.

Sue Donahue.

Uno’s Fundraiser

We will be starting our month-long Uno’s fundraiser. The fundraiser is very simple. When you go to Uno’s, any time during the month of February, give the waitor or waitress the following coupon (download here) and Uno’s will donate 20% of your bill to our troop. This fundraiser is easy because does not cost you any extra money. Anyone can use the coupon during the month and we will receive credit for it.

Please print out the coupons and share them with family and friends (I have even taken some extra to Uno’s and passed them out as people enter) Since this doesn’t cost extra people are usually willing to participate.  If you have any questions please let me know.

Thanks.

Camporee

Troop 540,

We’re all set for the Camporee this weekend.  It looks like it’s going to be a blast!  I would brush up on your scout skills; especially knot tying, first aid (ankle fracture) and starting and sustaining a campfire.

You can download the informational packet on the Camporee here.

Please show up to camp between 4:30-7:00pm on Friday night.  Please eat dinner before you show up.  Also, bring your own snacks on Friday night.  We will plan to leave the campsite on Sunday morning by 8:00am sharp.  Bring your ZERO-rated sleeping bags and dress in layers.  Bring extra hand warmers.

I’ve had about four scouts cancel at the last minute.  Please understand that the troop paid a non-refundable fee for those scouts that said they were going.  I understand that things come up but we will have to charge your account for what was paid towards your trip.

For those scouts that were assigned the meals, please make sure that you plan to bring the complete meals, including drinks and condiments.

Please respond back to this email, if you are going on the trip.

So far, this is who I know is going:

Troop Meeting Tomorrow Night

Good Evening Troop 540.

We will have a troop meeting tomorrow night in the North Main cafeteria. The green bar meeting will start at 7:00pm. The general meeting will start at 7:30pm.

We will be signing up for merit badges tomorrow night. I strongly encourage those scouts that have NOT finished their last merit badge, to continue to work on those until you are done. If there is a merit bade where only one scout had signed up for it, I will leave it up to the counselor to see if they will have the class with only one scout or we may ask you to pick another badge where there are more scouts that have signed up for the merit badge.

Here is a list of merit badges that are available to sign up for:

  • Camping – Mr. Walker
  • Citizenship in the Community – Mr. Ramos
  • Citizenship in the Nation – Mr. Wolownik
  • Citizenship in the World – Mr. Struhar
  • Coin Collecting – Mr. Pakula
  • Communications – Mrs. Struhar
  • Cooking – Mrs. Estrella
  • Crime Prevention – Mr. Wasserman
  • Gardening – Mr. Hall
  • First Aid – Mrs. Wolownik
  • Personal Fitness – Mr. Hess
  • Personal Management – Mr. Campanella
  • Plumbing – Mr. Nebrasky

Please fill the merit badge counselor applications out and hand it in tomorrow. If you are unable to attend the meeting tomorrow night, it’s in PDF format. Please fill it out online and email me the form and I will print it out and hand it in for you.

Click here for a link to the Merit Badge Counselor’s Application

Merit Badge Counselors will also have to take Youth Protection Training. If you haven’t done so already. Here is the link to the myscouting website. You may need to register for the first time, if you haven’t done so before. Once you’re in the site, you need to go to: “My dashboard” and look for “Youth Protection”.

I’ll see you all tomorrow night. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540
