July 2nd Fundraiser

Troop 540,

Who is available (scouts & parents) to help out with the July 2nd fundraiser at the lakes in Monroe for the fireworks display? This is on a Saturday.

We usually run two-hour shifts. It would be nice to see some of the other parents at this event as it can’t always be the same group doing all of the work. Please consider helping out this year.

The proceeds go to funding all of the troop activities for the year and we could really use the help.

Please get back to me by next week on whether on not you could help out.

Thanks,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540

Camporee

Troop 540,

We’re all set for the Camporee this weekend.  It looks like it’s going to be a blast!  I would brush up on your scout skills; especially knot tying, first aid (ankle fracture) and starting and sustaining a campfire.

You can download the informational packet on the Camporee here.

Please show up to camp between 4:30-7:00pm on Friday night.  Please eat dinner before you show up.  Also, bring your own snacks on Friday night.  We will plan to leave the campsite on Sunday morning by 8:00am sharp.  Bring your ZERO-rated sleeping bags and dress in layers.  Bring extra hand warmers.

I’ve had about four scouts cancel at the last minute.  Please understand that the troop paid a non-refundable fee for those scouts that said they were going.  I understand that things come up but we will have to charge your account for what was paid towards your trip.

For those scouts that were assigned the meals, please make sure that you plan to bring the complete meals, including drinks and condiments.

Please respond back to this email, if you are going on the trip.

So far, this is who I know is going:

October Camping

Troop 540,

The list below shows the scouts that have signed up to go camping at the Camporee in October. If your name is highlighted in red, that means you still need to register with the troop. If you have a dollar amount next to your name, this is what you owe the troop from last year. Please make sure to register and/or pay the troop what you owe at our next meeting tomorrow. You will need to take care of these two things before you can go on the camping trip in October.

I haven’t seen it in the details yet for the Camporee but I’m pretty sure they will need your medical forms. If you have them from summer camp, that will work. Any adults that are attending will most likely need them as well.

If anyone needs financial support, please talk to me privately and we could offer assistance to you. Thanks.

Hess, Christian
Hess, Alex
Crown, Aidan
Kohrs, Ty
Lacuna, Mike
Ramos, Justin ($16)
Ponstingel, Tristen
Estrella, Andre
Winegard, Griffin
Hamilton, Cody ($15)
Wolownik, Dennis ($28)
Wolff, Oren ($9)
Wolff, Adi ($4)
Buckley, Joshua ($18)
Duarte, Sam ($20)
Struhar, John ($15)

Update – Camp Wabenaki

Troop 540,

Here’s what I have so far for the camping trip this weekend:

  • Mr. Crown will take the trailer to and from camp.
  • Mr. Ramos will be the second leader at camp.

Here is the list of campers so far:

  • Wolownik, Dennis
  • Hess, Alex
  • Hess, Christian
  • Crown, Aidan
  • Duarte, Sam

Please get back to me by tomorrow night, if you are going or not, so that we can plan the meals for the trip and also give this information to the leaders of Camp Wabenaki for insurance purposes. If I don’t hear back from you by tomorrow night, I will assume that you’re not going. I will not accept any last minute responses on Thursday or Friday, as we would have sent the information to the leaders of the camp and would have planned the meals already.

Thanks,

Museum Village Volunteers For This Saturday & Sunday

Troop 540,

Museum Village needs volunteers for their Civil War Re-enactment. They need mostly older scouts (14 and older) and adults. Here are the details from Mr. Campanella below. Please email me if you can make it.

Museum Village will host its 40th consecutive Civil War Re-enactment on Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th. The Museum has also been operating 65 years.

We expect a large turnout of visitors and re-enactors.

In past years Troop 540 has provided community service to the Museum in the form of parking lot control. We normally plan two 3 1/2 hour shifts each day beginning at 9 am through 12:30 pm and from 12 noon to 3:30 pm. Scouts will also get food and beverage “chits”, can visit the encampments when on break and attend the “end of day battle” each afternoon.

I need four to six scouts (preferably 14 or older) with at least two adults each shift. Scouts should be in Class “B” uniforms and be prepared for variations in weather (sun screen, hat, raingear, etc).
I will provide bottled water and arrange for food and beverage with the museum. I will also provide orientation to responsibilities in the morning and a sign-in sheet to ensure scouts get the service credit they earn.

Mr. Pakula is usually available for at least one shift and I try to fill in where I can.

Please put out a request and keep me advised as to the response.

Thank you!

Paul
