Camp Wabenaki This Coming Weekend

Good Morning Troop 540.

Since we will not have a troop meeting this Tuesday, we’re going to have to plan the trip through emails. It looks like we’re going to start the trip on Saturday morning at 8:00am in the parking lot in Harriman State Park. Please have breakfast beforehand. We are going to hike into the camp, set up camp, fish, help put away the boats from the camp for the season, do some more fishing and work on scout skills. On Sunday morning, we will break camp, have a light breakfast and hike back and meet the parents at 9:00am. I will send out more details later on this week. What I need right now is a response back with who is definitely going on the trip? Also, I need to know what adults are able to stay over? Finally, can I get an adult to volunteer to take the trailer to and from camp?

We will hand out food assignments, as soon as we hear back from those that are going.

Please get back to me no later than Monday night.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540

9/11 Memorial Service

Troop 540,

Just a reminder that we will join in Monroe’s 9/11 Memorial Service this Friday, that takes place at the 9/11 Memorial by the lakes. We would need to show up at 6:30pm on Friday, September 11th to help hand out candles, light the candles, present colors, recite the Pledge of Allegiance and help to clean up after the service.

John Struhar, as the newly appointed quartermaster, you are responsible for bringing the troop’s flags and stands to this service. If you are unable to do this, please let me know so that I can make other arrangements to get the flags to the service. If you are able to get the flags to the service, have your parents contact me, so that I can give them the combination to the locks to open the trailer.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540

Schedule – Fundraiser

Troop 540,

Just some reminders for this week,

We have our fundraiser next Monday, March 16, at Jake’s Wayback Burgers. Please print out the coupons and give them to your friends and families for tomorrow night. 15% of the sales will go back to the troop.

Also, Andrew Wasserman is having his eagle project fundraiser. Please make sure to sell some Carousel Cakes (use this form) for him and turn in the money by Tuesday, March 17th.

I will see you all this Tuesday. Green bar starts at 7:00pm. The general meeting starts at 7:30pm. We will be camping at Nooteeming this coming weekend. Mr. Hickey, Mr. Doering and Mr. Verdini are all volunteering their time to come up and run the rifle range for the troop. They will meet us up at the range at Nooteeming on Saturday morning. On Tuesday, we will practice setting up tents and assign meals to the younger scouts. We will be camping at the Oneida platform campsite adjacent to the rifle range. Bring your snow shovels, just in case we have to shovel off the platforms. I have attached a map which also includes the address of the campsite. We should plan on getting to the site by 6pm on Friday and have a 7:30am pick up on Sunday.

Please let me know which dads plan on staying with us for this trip. I need to leave early on Sunday and I need some parents to stick around and make sure that everyone gets picked up on.

I can bring the trailer up to camp on Friday. Can I get a volunteer to bring it back on Sunday?

I’ll see you all tomorrow night at Jake’s.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540

Tomorrow’s Meeting

Troop 540,

Just a reminder that our meeting will be held at The Knights of Columbus tomorrow.

We will have our green bar meeting from 7:00-7:30pm and the troop meeting from 7:30-9:00pm.

We will be getting a head count for the upcoming camping trip and giving out food assignments and a head count for whoever is ready for their scoutmaster conference and board of review for next week.

Brandon Nebicker – Mr. Hickey will be coming in tomorrow night to give you your eagle scoutmaster conference. Please be dressed and ready for him tomorrow night.

I also need to know who is available for the overnight this weekend and who can bring the trailer? Please respond back to this email, if you are able to help out this weekend. I will be there the entire weekend but I need at least one other adult for each night. Hiram, I’m not sure if your plans have changed but I think you said you could make it for Friday into Saturday? Pete, I think you said you could make it for Saturday into Sunday? Let me know if you guys are still available.

Thanks and I’ll see you all tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Jon Hess – Scoutmaster, Troop 540

This Weekend’s Overnight Trip to Bullowa

Troop 540,

I haven’t heard back from anyone regarding breakfast for Saturday. I will go out tonight and get breakfast for Saturday. In the future, I will not be getting any meals for the troop, unless Alex or Christian are assigned to get the meals. We will discuss how we will avoid this at the next meeting.

Griffin will have an itinerary for us for this weekend. Griffin, if you are unable to attend on Saturday, please get the itinerary to my house by 5:30pm tomorrow night. I will bring it to Bullowa. As always, plan on doing some work from your scout books. David Nebrasky (patrol leader) will fill in as the leader for tomorrow night. Some of the older scouts will be there on Saturday. So, tomorrow night, plan on working on some rank requirements for the younger scouts. PLEASE bring your scout books.

We will be camping at the Cricketown camp site at Bullowa. CampBullowa_Map for the address and location of the site.

Plan on eating before you get to the camp site tomorrow. We’ll have snacks at night and the scouts will be preparing the meals for the rest of the trip.

I’m going to get there a little late. Probably around 6:30pm. Mr. Crown will be bringing the trailer. David, you’re in charge of making sure that when the trailer gets there, you’ll coordinate getting the tents set up ASAP.

Pick up will be at 8am sharp on Sunday.

For the new scouts, here’s the camping list below:

MUST HAVE

  • Sleeping bag (ZERO DEGREE RATED)
  • Head light with extra batteries
  • Extra sneakers or boots

Bullowa Trip This Weekend

Troop 540,

So far, I have confirmed two adult leaders for Friday night (Myself & Rich Crown). Rich Crown will also be able to take the trailer into the site.

On Saturday, I have Hiram Ramos as one adult leader. I still need one more adult for Saturday into Sunday. Also, Hiram, would you be able to take the trailer back home on Sunday?
